About Akers of Toons

Hey! My name is Jesse, and I am so stoked that you stopped by the Akers of Toons village! I hope this community is a reflection of me working hard towards building a vibrant community of arts and crafts enthusiasts that want to contribute to others,  as well as using the village as a “creative hub”  to learn new techniques, share ones already known and encourage each other in our efforts. I have always been very “exploratory”  with arts and crafts, so I have dabbled in a bit of everything. I have always enjoyed making things and working with my hands, but without encouragement it is easy to give up or get discouraged. If that happens, then we never reach our  full potential, which is a big reason a lot of people craft.  To always see improvement is a motivation in almost all craft folk. That is where Akers of Toons comes in!

For starters, Our village needs you to share your craft with others and give them as much insight as you can through instruction and photos, so that they can teach someone, so that they can teach someone, so that……get it? I hear the same thing all of the time. People tell me “I have just never been very good with my hands.”  These same people can do things like sharpen an axe, roll out pie crust, brush their hair, etc. How much more motor skills could ya need? What they really need is someone to teach them, and that someone is you! Every craft has its place, so don’t ever think that your work  is too simple, or not fancy. Crafts like that make great gifts, are fun to do in a group and can be produced at a fairly rapid pace. You see, where I hope Akers of Toons truly grows into  is a place that anyone with an itch to create, or a skill to teach, the resources for them to express themselves will be easily accessible right here!

So, I welcome you, and if you would like to contribute a tutorial send me an email with “Tutorial” as the subject to akerstoons@gmail.com . Please include all info including a short bio along with photos and instructions of the project that you are sharing with the village.

Enjoy!

  1. I grew up on the old Warner Bros classics (not that late 60’s and later garbage). Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Marvin the Martian, and the rest of the gang. Never quite warmed up to Pepe Le Pew, though. Foghorn Leghorn and the dog were always terrific fun!

The passion your have comes through in what you present here. Clearly you’re having fun and the end results show because of it.

Thanks for visiting my blog today (the Farewell, Titanic review). I really appreciate it!

  2. Thank you for visiting my blog today – as a mom and a myself a child(a long time ago) I still love toons. Nothing makes me more happier to the core of my being than listening to my children laugh at Snoopy and the red baron or bugs bunny and the roadrunner – never gets old! Looking forward to your future posts – great work!

  3. Thanks for liking my blog. I appreciate it. I grew up in the 1950’s so you know I’m all about classic cartoons. Saturday morning was a treat. The cartoons that are on TV today don’t appeal to me. Have fun with your blog!

  4. I thank you for liking my blog post and if it’s the sort of things you are interested in, I’d be happy if you followed me as i post artistic content on a weekly basis. Thanks again 🙂

  5. Thanks for dropping by my blog!
The wood carvings you and your wife make look amazing. I should show this blog to my grandpa. He crafts wooden ornaments and decorations, and I’m sure he’d find your crafts interesting.

  6. Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog and for the ‘like’! What a fun blog you have here! All of your carvings have such great character 😀 Looking forward to seeing more.

  7. Hey guys, I just nominated your blog for a Liebster Award! There’ll more info in my post today but as I’m having trouble with my laptop and don’t know exactly when/if I will get it up, I just wanted to let you know the good news. 🙂 Glad to see you’re on Ebay…gotta buy one of those Toons!

    • We all have different skill sets, and that is what makes crafting so fun. I love going to shows to look at other folks works. I ALWAYS try to figure out how it was made, which sometimes leads to trying to make it myself. I have dabbled in many, many, hobbies and crafts. Thanks for the comment!!!

  8. I love your carving! The candles are so cute I don’t think I could burn them. Your work does remind me of the cute hand made things in the Christkindlesmarkt that I wrote about. Thanks for liking that post, by the way.

My creativity tends toward writing and cooking right now. i used to design and sew garments, flags and banners, as well as things to decorate my home. I would most likely have many scars if any of my crafting tended to constant use of sharp instruments!

I love your idea for making this a hub of creativity. I’ll be following along, and if I do craft something besides food, I’ll share it with you! It’s a great idea for a blog. Good luck!

    • Thanks so much for your encouraging comments! I just put up a new crafters challenge that you may be interested in 🙂 When I read where you said your creativity tends towards writing and cooking right now, I thought “That is a great way to think of it!” You don’t say “I’m a chef” or “I’m a writer” which allows you to go unlabelled. That is exactly where a creative person needs to be. Thanks again!!!

      • Haha! I guess that really is the way I think of it There are so many things I want to do and make! I can’t afford supplies for most of them, but writing is free, and you gotta eat, right? 😀

  9. Thanks for liking my blog about the little feet – i couldn’t resist telling people about what I saw… I wish I could do as much craft wor as I used to but I keep on with knitting some stuff – I’m just posting a photo of my latest completion – the Xmas tree tea-cosy. I bought the pattern recently at a craft fair.
